ERM, the world’s largest specialist sustainability consultancy, has extended its carbon market services with the launch of ERM Climate Markets, a new business line designed to help companies mitigate unabated greenhouse gas emissions by investing in impactful carbon credits that support their decarbonization and broader sustainability goals.

Building on ERM’s existing carbon markets strategy, due diligence and development services, ERM Climate Markets will help clients, including corporates and investors, to access high-quality carbon credit portfolios that complement their decarbonization action, offer social, biodiversity and economic benefits and accelerate the global transition to net zero.

The ERM Climate Markets team will also work with project developers to offer clients high-quality carbon project development opportunities that deliver positive outcomes, not just for the climate but for communities and ecosystems. Clients will be able to access enhanced due diligence, supported by ERM’s global network of environmental, social and economic specialists, to help de-risk their investments.

ERM has been helping clients to navigate the carbon markets and design their decarbonization journeys for more than 20 years, including planning and target-setting, integrating decarbonization strategies across operations and value chains and supporting reporting and disclosure requirements.

The new business will enable clients to harness this experience, combined with ERM’s global reach and deep technical expertise, to support their short and long-term carbon credit procurement strategies.

Alex Cox, Head of Climate Markets at ERM said: “Carbon markets will play an increasingly important role in delivering global net zero ambitions by 2050. They also offer significant opportunities to scale finance flows for nature and contribute to sustainable development. However, the market is complex, with increasing stakeholder scrutiny on the quality and impact of investment.

“We are launching ERM Climate Markets to help our clients to minimize the impact of their unabated emissions, by investing in bespoke, high-quality carbon credit portfolios that are aligned with their short and long-term mitigation strategies.”

Tom Reichert, Group CEO at ERM said: “ERM already works with clients at every stage of their decarbonization journeys and, as carbon credit strategies gain momentum, we are introducing ERM Climate Markets to meet their evolving needs.

“We look forward to helping clients access the high-quality carbon credits and broader mitigation solutions that will contribute to a transparent and credible net zero outcome, while supporting nature and helping to deliver a just transition for all.”
