Stakeholder Engagement

As part of our commitment to good business, we engage regularly with key stakeholders. This process helps us to understand, prioritize and manage our sustainability impacts as an organization as well as to evolve our services to clients.

Our stakeholders include our employees, clients, investors, suppliers and contractors, local communities, governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), business and industry associations and academics. We use various engagement channels to engage and collaborate with these different groups.

For example, we encourage ongoing dialogue with our employees through our annual Global Employee Engagement Survey, various surveys and presentations, annual performance reviews, intranet sites, blogs and an open-door approach for feedback. Supporting internal collaboration on a global scale is one of the elements of our One Planet. One Company. ERM. growth strategy.

Externally, we engage with clients and other stakeholders through surveys and interviews; our memberships and involvement with international organizations such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and United Nations Global Compact (UNGC); and other thought leadership activities. We participate in numerous other national, regional and local industry associations as well as conferences and meetings.

We also solicit client reviews on our project proposals and delivery as part of regular business activities to gain valuable feedback on our performance.

Other external activities include extensive engagement with suppliers and contractors in relation to our global Contractor Management Program and supplier prequalification systems.

ERM Membership in WBCSD

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is the leading global association of businesses focused on sustainable development. ERM is a founding member of the WBCSD and we have been an active participant throughout its history.

The WBCSD's focus is on Vision 2050, which calls for business to play a leading role in enabling "9 billion people to live well, and within the planet's resources." The Action2020 platform provides a more short-term focus for business action to support Vision 2050.

ERM is providing high-level support for the Action2020 platform: During the past year, ERM's CEO John Alexander was Co-Chair and an Ambassador for Action2020; David Snashall, ERM's Asia Pacific Commercial Director, co-chaired the Basic Needs and Rights Working Group; and we held a leadership role in the climate change area with Charles Allison, a Partner from the United Kingdom, co-leading the Climate Resilience Business Solution.

In early 2014, ERM held events for clients across 11 cities in the Asia Pacific region outlining Vision 2050 and Action2020 as part of our commitment to engaging other leading companies in seeking business solutions. We will continue our advocacy role in a variety of other forums in the year ahead.

By collaborating with peers to shape the WBCSD Action2020 agenda, we are working proactively on solutions to sustainability challenges facing business and the wider world.
