Meeting international standards and client needs in Myanmar

Yangon, Myanmar

During FY15, ERM established a formal presence in Myanmar, in Southeast Asia. We have been active on behalf of our clients in Myanmar since 1993, working in a variety of sectors providing impact assessment and due diligence services. We have conducted impact assessments for the oil and gas sector for over 20 years. More recently, ERM has supported a number of large-scale private investment and development projects. These have included power projects, particularly gas- or coal-fired, as well as industrial developments and manufacturing facilities.

Due to the limited history of environmental law in Myanmar, ERM has conducted these projects in accordance with corporate requirements of client organizations and international standards and, more recently, the draft Myanmar Environmental Impact Assessment Procedures. ERM has been active in the development of these procedures, having provided comments through local forums, associations and working panels on which ERM sits.

Recognizing that Myanmar is a particularly challenging operating environment, ERM created a specialized Anti-Bribery and Corruption training module for all employees working in Myanmar. Our Project Liability Analysis tool (PLAN) is one of many tools which we use for all opportunities which helps us make decisions on which opportunities to pursue and which to abandon and to manage effectively any associated risks long before the projects are won.
