Lunzua Power Authority Limited (LPA) has been selected by the Government of Zambia as the preferred bidder and subsequently the Developer for the Kalungwishi Hydropower Project in the Luapula and Northern Provinces of Zambia.
The Project mainly comprises the development, financing, construction and operation of two (2) run-of-river hydroelectric schemes at Kabwelume Falls and Kundabwika Falls and the associated transmission and interconnection facilities.
Key Project infrastructure will include:
- A 99 MW Kabwelume Falls Power Station;
- A 156 MW Kundabwika Falls Power Station;
- 330kV transmission line between the Kabwelume and Kundabwika Power Stations; and
- 330kV transmission line between the Kabwelume and Mporokoso Town.
This project requires environmental approval from the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) in terms of the Act No.12 of 2011. Environmental Resources Management (ERM) and its local partners Zulu Burrow/Whydah Consulting have been appointed to conduct the environmental studies necessary to support this authorisation.
