Purchase strengthens ERM’s capability in social consulting
ERM, the world’s leading environmental and sustainability consultancy, has today completed the acquisition of rePlan Inc. a Toronto-based company that provides social assessment, advisory and management services to natural resource and infrastructure companies and financial institutions around the world.
Established in 2003 in Canada, rePlan offers natural resource and infrastructure companies and financial institutions a comprehensive range of services to help them understand and manage their social impacts and risks. This includes resettlement and livelihood restoration, worker housing and communities, community and regional development, engagement, dialogue and grievance management, social assessment and management, social closure and community transitions, and social information management systems. Many of rePlan’s projects are in Africa, Southern and Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
The acquisition of rePlan broadens ERM’s social consulting capabilities, particularly in resettlement, strengthening its existing leading position as a global leader in impact assessment and planning, and gaining social license to operate for its clients. It also strengthens the company’s ability to help clients deliver sustainable value from their long-term investments. ERM employs some 5,000 staff and supports many of the world’s largest companies, including more than 50 per cent of the Global Fortune 500 through its network of some 150 offices in over 40 countries. ERM has experienced strong growth in the last few years in particular in response to increasing demand from its clients for the high-quality services and project outcomes for which ERM is so well known.
“We have worked with rePlan for some time and have been impressed with their focus and reputation around client service and project excellence,” explained John Alexander, ERM Chief Executive Officer. “There is an ideal fit between the two companies, and I am excited that we will be able to leverage our respective global networks and expertise to extend the solutions we provide to clients across their spectrum of needs.”
rePlan Managing Partner, Graeme Burt said, “Joining ERM is a very positive next step in rePlan’s evolution. We know the people of ERM well and are looking forward to combining our resources to address complex and important social and sustainability consulting needs around the world. We are all delighted to be joining ERM.”
