Purchase strengthens ERM’s capability in the Chemicals sector
ERM, the world’s leading environmental and sustainability consultancy, has acquired ReachCentrum, a niche player in the Registration market for REACH, the European Union’s Regulation on chemicals and their safe use. On March 30, a definitive Share Sale and Purchase Agreement was signed between Cefic and ERM. Final arrangements are now underway and the acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of May.
ReachCentrum has 13 staff and is based in Brussels, Belgium. It was created in June 2006 by Cefic (the European Chemical Industry Council) to help companies throughout the value chain prepare for and implement REACH. Its highly professional team helps businesses in the chemical industry navigate the REACH process providing expert guidance and support.
ERM has a strong track record in the Chemicals sector and this acquisition strengthens ERM’s position in this important market. ERM employs some 5,000 staff and supports many of the world’s largest companies, including more than 50 per cent of the Global Fortune 500 through its network of some 150 offices in over 40 countries and territories.
“Considering the strong link with product sustainability, the acquisition of ReachCentrum fits well with our aspiration to be recognised as the leading global sustainability consultancy,” explained John Alexander, ERM Chief Executive Officer. “The acquisition of ReachCentrum will give excellent access to ERM in the European and global Chemical Sector, a key sector for our business. Furthermore, it will give us a strong market position in dossier registration under REACH Regulation and position us well for other regulatory support in the product space which will continue after the final 2018 REACH Registration deadline.”
Hubert Mandery, Director General of Cefic said: “The time is right to transition ReachCentrum to new ownership so that the company can widen its services. Besides, this will help Cefic to focus on its core mission. ReachCentrum will be in good hands with ERM and will continue providing support to clients in and outside Europe, and further grow as an organisation. Cefic will remain available to ReachCentrum and ERM to ensure a smooth transition and that ReachCentrum has a successful future. A four-year ongoing cooperation agreement formalises this.”
