ERM Breakfast Session - Creating social value: Harnessing data to maximize impact

Monday, 5 February 2018
7:00am - 7:30am

Are you deploying innovative and varied approaches to transform your approach to shared value creation – and how effectively are you demonstrating measurable value impacts for stakeholders and your organization?

There is renewed impetus for the private sector to contribute to societal sustainable development and demonstrate impact, especially against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. However, delivering and assessing shared value programs whilst managing stakeholder expectations remains a challenge for many companies.

ERM has convened a panel of industry thought leaders to discuss different approaches to social performance measurement and the use of data to understand and improve performance and shared value, and we invite you to join our breakfast session taking place during Mining Indaba.

Mining Indaba provides a platform for the mining and investment community to meet, and attracts mining companies from around the world. Attendees are invited to enjoy a hearty breakfast and engage with their peers at our event before heading across the road to the CTICC for the Indaba.

About ERM's Session

The existing tools and approaches for stakeholder management that mining companies currently rely on are often reactive and not integrated with a business’s full operating reach, which means they often don’t yield the required performance. Our experience shows that to truly deliver positive impact, companies need to develop a strong understanding of their operating context and the touchpoints between their value chain and society.

Our discussion will introduce the ways in which successful businesses analyze multiple sources of data to create an integrated socio-economic baseline, which can be used to identify shared value generation programs. Analysis of varied data ensures social and sustainable development challenges are well understood so that program strategy can be calibrated against investment, risk and upside for all. Improvement of social program performance can be driven through the application of proven methodologies, grounded on the monitoring of meaningful indicators of outcome.

Overall, the session will focus on the sharing of innovative approaches to monitoring and reporting of social impact and performance to enable continuous improvement of social programs and the delivery of shared value.
