ERM at PDAC 2019

3 - 6 March 2019

Sustainable Mining - Building the Mine We Want to See

Today, companies need to strike a balance between commercial growth and environmental, social and governance risks. This reality is shifting both the narrative and the role we play in securing sustainable growth.

To understand this further, ERM has been discussing the concept of building ‘the mine we want to see’. It puts forward a framework that challenges mining companies to think about ways they can build a competitive advantage through sustainable practices.

Many of our sessions throughout the week of PDAC will look at how companies can build sustainable elements into their mine operations and strategies, and as a result be better equipped to manage risk and secure future growth.

Sustainable Mining – Building the Mine We Want to See
Monday, March 4, Presentation Room 202B (North Building), 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Mining walks a fine line when navigating evolving stakeholder and shareholder expectations. With rising globalization, the demand for mining products and scrutiny over how they are extracted and used continues to grow.

This new reality directly impacts the way we do business. We are affected by changes driven through technological innovation, investor activism, community and consumer demands and government policy. We will talk about five pillars integral to the future of mining. Panelists will share their perspectives on what it will take for mining to remain a leader in the sustainability space. Attendees can raise their own questions and help to define, “the mine we want to see.”

The session will be moderated by Louise Pearce, ERM’s Global Mining Lead, and feature the following panelists.

  • Danièle Spethmann, President and Chief Executive Officer, Warrior Gold Inc.
  • Louise Grondin, Sr. Vice President Environment, Sustainable Development & People, Agnico Eagle Mines, Ltd.
  • Mark Edwards, Vice President, Community and Government, Teck Resources Ltd.
  • Richard Young, President and Chief Executive Officer, Teranga Gold Corp.
