EBRD Capacity Building Workshop on EHSS Good Industry Practices in Egypt

20 - 24 November 2016

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is accepting letters of interest from Environmental, Health & Safety and Social (EHSS) consultants in Egypt to participate in a Capacity Building Workshop for local Egyptian consultants on EHSS Good Industry Practices, including EBRD’s Environmental and Social Policy and Performance Requirements.

The objectives of the workshop will be the following:

  • Enable local EHSS consultants to build upon their current understanding of EBRD’s (and other IFIs) environmental and social policies and procedures;
  • Share knowledge and experience of good industry practices in terms of EHSS due diligence, ESIA and EHSS management;
  • Increase the number of local consultants who can conduct environmental and social due diligence, including monitoring assignments, on behalf of the EBRD (and other IFIs); and,
  • Develop consulting business skills within the EHSS services sub-sector, such as proposal writing, marketing and identifying business risks.

The workshop will be organized and facilitated by senior international environmental, social and health and safety experts from ERM.

Agenda
The workshop will be based on distinct yet complementary units over five days:

  1. The first day will provide participants with an overview of EBRD, our mandate and EHSS requirements. The day will also include a module on how to bid for work with EBRD and an overview of the Bank’s procurement process.
  2. Days two to four will have a more technical focus with sessions on environmental, health and safety and social topics commonly encountered in EBRD projects.
  3. The fifth day is planned for the presentation and discussion of real case studies from EBRD and our clients to demonstrate how the Bank’s policies and procedures are applied at the project level.

The workshop will be held in English.

Logistics
There is no cost for the workshop itself. Participants are expected to pay for all needed transportation, accommodation and meals, excluding lunches and coffee/tea breaks which will be provided during the workshop.

A certificate of attendance will be provided to participants.

Capacity
Spaces are limited and priority will be given to local consultants/practitioners working with Egyptian EHSS consulting organisations.

Other considerations in selecting participants will be:

  • Providing a balanced audience between environmental, social and health and safety participants, especially for the technical sessions;
  • Providing a balance of participants from different locations in Egypt;
  • Including no more than two people from any given organisation; and,
  • Ensuring a diverse group.
