John Waters is ERM’s Global Managing Partner for Sustainable Safety. ERM is the world’s leading sustainability consultancy, providing support to multi-national companies on their most challenging sustainability issues, including how to breathe life into their personal and process safety management approaches.
John is a member of ERM’s Executive Committee and has worked for the company for 18 years in a range of operational and client focused roles. His personal safety journey was heavily influenced by a serious incident on a petrochemical facility in the NW of England in 1988, where a fellow worker was seriously injured in an industrial fire. This incident demonstrated to John the importance of hazard recognition, active safety leadership, and learning from incidents.
His current role is supporting clients in delivering profound and sustainable improvements to their safety performance, particularly focused on the reduction of serious injuries and fatalities, and the elimination of high hazard catastrophic incidents.
John has supported clients in many sectors, including oil and gas, mining, chemicals and manufacturing, and in countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America.
