Gareth Roberts

Partner in the Middle East Business Unit in the United Arab Emirates

On any given day I can find myself taking on a variety of roles, for example business development meetings with potential clients, project meetings with existing clients, making presentations, coaching junior members of my team, or contributing to the business strategy as a whole. The nature of my role also means that I get to travel and so far I have visited Bahrain, Egypt, France, Germany, Ireland, Korea, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Syria and the US. Never a dull day, that’s for sure.

Why ERM?
ERM is among a very small number of organizations that can offer a fully integrated suite of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) services to clients without the need to sub-contract or partner with other companies. In addition, ERM can draw on a large pool of HSE professionals across geographies that can support some of the largest projects in the world.

The main reason I joined ERM was due to the caliber of the people it employed. I like working with a great team on exciting projects and I thrive on providing clients with solutions to their risk management problems.

I transferred to the Middle East to help set-up and grow a risk and safety team here, which has proved to be my biggest success at ERM. It has been especially rewarding to bring in some very talented individuals to strengthen the team and to cement our credibility in a competitive marketplace.

I am currently working on a range of projects across the region ranging from detailed risk assessment studies of major refineries through to process safety auditing and providing operational process safety services. Our work in the region is very much based in the oil and gas sector, but we have worked on some extremely exciting blue-chip projects as the region diversifies its industries.
