Christina Hoffman

Partner, United States

I joined ERM’s Boston (US) office in 2010. ERM appealed to me because it is predominantly an environmental firm, as opposed to my previous company where I was part of a small environmental practice within a larger engineering consultancy.

I joined ERM’s Boston (US) office in 2010. ERM appealed to me because it is predominantly an environmental firm, as opposed to my previous company where I was part of a small environmental practice within a larger engineering consultancy.

ERM’s involvement in interesting projects throughout the United States and around the world also attracted me.

As a newly hired wetland scientist and permitting specialist with about 10 years of experience, I focused on ERM’s technical delivery. From the beginning, I worked with different Partners on projects across industry sectors – from mining to contaminated sites, regional utilities and gas pipelines. I learned how to execute projects very efficiently and eventually transitioned to managing teams. From there, I established deep relationships with clients across multi-disciplinary work. This included a dream project, where I managed a Brazilian coastal rainforest restoration project for five years. During that time, I observed and learned from an ERM Partner in Brazil. His interactions with the client, the ERM team and agency staff taught me how to honor and respect each person for what they do.

I was promoted to Partner this year. I was not particularly interested in becoming a Partner until our Business Unit Manager nominated me to join ERM’s Path to Partnership. Under this program, I diversified my focus, spending more time on deepening client connections and supporting Account Directors with their key clients. I also participated in well-designed ERM training courses on advanced consulting skills and people management.

There are no closed doors at ERM. If you have the drive and passion, you can go anywhere. It has been great to see women moving up and taking leadership roles in the company. Today, half of the Partners in Boston are women.

Having a strong support system is truly refreshing. I am encouraged by all the people here with drive and passion for what we do, and I plan to stay at ERM for the long term.
