I joined ERM in March 2017 as a recent graduate from Penn State University, with a bachelors in meteorology. My major focused on weather risk management, so I studied how weather and climate have an impact on business decisions and strategy.

I joined ERM in March 2017 as a recent graduate from Penn State University, with a bachelors in meteorology. My major focused on weather risk management, so I studied how weather and climate have an impact on business decisions and strategy.

Although quite a few careers within meteorology are spent forecasting, I knew I wanted to be client facing, which steered me toward consulting.

When I took a look at ERM, I was really impressed with the depth and breadth of technical expertise and what the company offered in terms of client services. Having such a wide range of projects and clients really interested me because I did not want to repeatedly work on the same tasks. I was interviewed by people from junior level to partners, which demonstrated that not only are senior level staff involved and invested in the process, but that the company values the opinions and input of junior staff. I could tell from the interview process and ERM’s online presence that overall ERM is inclusive and collaborative.

ERM encourages professional growth and staff development while providing excellent services and deliverables to our clients. For example, early in my career I learned techniques in leak detection with a focus on optical gas imaging. With this new skill, I surveyed mid-stream natural gas assets for greenhouse gas emissions compliance for one of ERM’s key clients. This provided me the opportunity to manage tasks and individuals at an early stage in my career. I learned about field safety, the use of various pieces of emissions measurement and detection equipment, and task management. My new skill set enabled me to work in British Columbia, Southern California, South Carolina and New Mexico for several of our most important clients.

One of the best parts of working at ERM is the people. My colleagues are friendly, open and willing to help with projects. We have a great group of people, which makes it easy to come to work each day. We are focused on delivering excellent services for our clients, while at the same time enjoying our time at work. For example, at lunchtime or the end of the workday, we will take the opportunity to go outside and play a pick-up game of soccer or basketball, or stay in and play ping pong in the breakroom. It is a great way to let off some steam after completing a difficult project and helps maintain an energetic office culture.

Working at ERM is never mundane. There is always a new adventure, which keeps the workplace lively.
