Dr Malcolm Hutton

Global Risk Practice Director and Managing Partner EMEA Power Sector

A pollution scientist with over 35 years’ experience of energy, environmental  and human health issues in both technical and policy areas, Malcolm is the Managing Partner for ERM's Global Risk Practice. He also leads our work in the Power Sector in EMEA and oversees the work of ERM's Certification Body, CVS.

As well as undertaking project work and serving on working groups and external committees, Malcolm’s worldwide experience of environmental impacts of human activities and their management at site and company level connects him to an extensive network of private sector clients, international bodies, regulatory authorities and NGOs.

Malcolm has been responsible for major growth in ERM’s UK’s private sector strategy consulting, growing new businesses, setting up offices and innovating and expanding existing services offered to clients. His roles with ERM have included CEO, Europe; Managing Director, UK & Ireland; Global Business Development Director and Head of M&A. He also set up a Climate Change and Energy team which worked on the UK and the EU ETS and is also responsible for the establishment and growth of a global Climate Change and Energy Practice. 

Working groups/committees of relevance include various UK DTI Working Groups;  the Carbon Capture and Storage Association and serving on numerous  Committees for the CEC and WBCSD.

Prior to ERM, Malcolm was the Deputy Director at the WHO/UNEP Centre, University of London and  Research Manager at Beijer Institute, Swedish Academy of Sciences, Stockholm.

Publications:  Over 75 refereed articles on ecotoxicology, pollutant emissions inventories exposure pathway modelling and quantification, and human health impacts based on dose response studies.
