ERM opens new branch office in Kazakhstan to meet the growing needs of our oil and gas clients

29 July 2009

ERM has opened a second office in Kazakhstan to meet the increasing demands of our clients needs in the Caspian Sea region.

The Caspian Sea in Western Kazakhstan is a region in which oil and gas companies are investing heavily in both onshore and offshore projects. The Kashagan field is one of the world's largest oil and gas plays, placing it in a significant position within these industries.

ERM has been helping clients in this region since the early 1990s setting up our first office in the city of Almaty in 2005. The new office will be in Atyrau which is 2,700 kilometers west of Almaty on the northern shore of the Caspian Sea.

The new Atyrau office will be lead by UK Partner Denis Daley with close management and project support from other EMEA Partners including Sergey Bourtsev (Moscow), Giuseppe Filauro (Milan) and Alistair Fulton (London).

Senior Partner Carlo Alberto Marcoaldi lead the new office project: “Kazakhstan is one place where business is growing fast and provides huge opportunities for us to grow. The number of skyscrapers that have been built in the area over the past 12 months illustrates how booming business is here due to the large investments being made by the oil and gas companies.

“ERM has been working with clients in the area since the early 1990s and with a key pipeline project in the region since 2001. It is important for us to establish a presence in the Caspian.  Our clients are asking us to do more than fly-in, fly-out on Safety Risk, Environmental Action Plans, Compliance and Sustainability as they are now asking us to help them in areas such as remediation."
