Speakers:
Dr Shaun Xie is the Managing Director of ERM China and the Deputy Executive Director of the Committee of Soil & Groundwater Environment (CSGE), Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences (CSES) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), which serves as the top think tank for MEP and other governmental bodies on soil and groundwater pollution, prevention and remediation. He has more than 20 years working experience and has been directly involved in more than 1,000 environmental, health and safety projects including environmental site assessments, risk assessments, and soil and groundwater remediation in China.
He has also been a panel expert for many Chinese Government Project Approval Meetings and is a well known presenter at conferences, seminars and training workshops.
Mr David Arthur is a Partner and the Regional Manager of ERM’s Shanghai office. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer and has specialised in environmental management for nearly 30 years. In China, David Arthur has worked with a range of private sector companies assisting with the development of their marketing strategies, EHS permitting, due diligence and regulatory compliance. His particular skills cover environmental policy and strategy development, waste management, evaluation of environmental technologies, institutional capacity building, public participation and the commercialisation of public sector services. He has lived in Asia for the last 13 years and has worked in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Piers Touzel is a Partner with ERM and is responsible for ERM China's permitting practice. Piers has guided clients through EHS and land administration permitting in China for the past 10 years. During this time, Chinese regulatory approvals have become increasingly complex, requiring longer lead times and an understanding of how the pieces of the permitting process fit together. Piers will draw on his experience in the oil and gas, mining, chemicals and manufacturing sectors in explaining to managers how best to navigate China's evolving approvals process for new facilities.
Dr Xuezhu Long is a Partner with ERM, responsible for transaction, risk and safety consulting services. Prior to joining ERM in 1999, Dr Long was a research fellow at Jackson Environment Institute at University College, London. With over 20 years research and project management experience in the field of environmental studies and consultancy, Dr Long has developed and managed a wide range of research and consultancy projects in the UK and China.
Douglas McLachlin is a Partner with ERM and is responsible for ERM’s energy and climate change business in China. With more than 25 years of experience as an environmental engineer, he has successfully managed and directed energy efficiency and green building assessments, water and wastewater treatment assessments, design and construction management of manufacturing complexes and R&D facilities, and validation and verification of carbon emission reduction projects. Doug is currently working with a large municipality in China to develop a roadmap for their transition to a low carbon economy.
