| RISKPLOT GRAPHIC | Why and when was RISKPLOT first developed?
In 1990 RISKPLOT was developed by ERM to minimise the potential for calculation error, and to reduce study time. Following extensive use, RISKPLOT was commercially released in 1995. With funding from the UK Health & Safety Executive an ENHANCED version was released in June 1999 followed by RISKPLOT GRAPHIC in September 2000.
Why did UK HSE commission a regulatory version of RISKPLOT ?
- A need for rapid assessment to keep apace of an ever increasing work load.
- A need to maintain, if not improve, study accuracy.
- A requirement not to be restricted to any one consequence model.
- The need for results to be suitable for use in public meetings and documents.
The benefits of this version are now available as part of RISKPLOT GRAPHIC.
RISKPLOT is used to determine risks to people, the environment, buildings and equipment. In fact, the risks simply refer to the user’s preferred measure of harm such as, fatalities, equipment damage, loss of amenity and pollution. Thus, in addition to risk assessments to satisfy regulatory requirements, applications include:
Determining appropriate site locations.
- Optimising plant layouts.
- Selecting optimum transport routes.
- Minimising environmental detriments.
What expertise is required to use RISKPLOT?
For those with some experience of risk assessment it takes a matter of minutes to become familiar with the software and be in a position to calculate results. For those less experienced, a series of example cases provides a simple introduction to quantitative risk assessment and RISKPLOT.
What are the outputs of RISKPLOT GRAPHIC ?
Final output is in the form of individual risk contours overlaid on a user defined map, ‘on-screen’ and to scale; risk transect graph with user defined criterion lines; societal or group risks graph (FN graph) with user entered criterion lines, and an ‘on-screen’ table summarising the rate of harm attributable to events, detailing ‘actual’ and relative risk contribution. All results can be viewed ‘on-screen’, saved and printed.
Buy or Lease?
RISKPLOT GRAPHIC is available as either a perpetual licence (one-off fee) or lease.
