ERM heading up environmental permitting process for Volkswagen Group of America’s first new US product facility in 20 years

Atlanta, 22 August 2008 - Environmental Resources Management (ERM) the world’s leading environmental consultancy has been selected by Volkswagen Group of America to lead on the environmental permitting process of their new facility in Chattanooga, TN.

When permitting a new facility all media such as air, water and waste have to be considered. The air permitting is typically the most challenging and primary aspect with a project of this magnitude. A company must get the proper construction permits and a Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) review as well as Best Achievable Control Technology (BACT) assessment and potential Title V concerns. ERM has worked with the client and State regulators to meet Volkswagen’s critical schedule requirements.

Jeff Twaddle, ERM Partner leading on this project commented “This is an outstanding opportunity for ERM to partner with Volkswagen. We are excited that Volkswagen chose ERM to prepare applications and assist them through the environmental permitting process for their facility. The environmental permitting process will be managed out of ERM’s Nashville office, bringing together an expert team from some of our 60 offices in the US.”

Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America added “The selection of ERM underscores our commitment to sustainable development. We look forward to partnering with ERM in the coming months as we build an environmentally responsible production facility in the US.”
