| Air Quality Services in Asia | Air quality has become a key issue of concern throughout the Asia Pacific region with many cities experiencing unprecedented levels of pollution. Concerns about the impact on human health are widespread and attention is now being focused upon the development of integrated air quality management strategies.
In addition to concerns over primary pollutants such as sulphur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen, secondary photochemical pollutants (such as ozone) and fine particulates are now a focus of attention and are becoming the subject of regulation and policy.
ERM is a leading practitioner in this field; major recent commissions include: development of a mesoscale air quality model for Hong Kong, impact assessment for major new coal and oil-fired power stations and management plans for air quality in a major city in China.
These projects require an understanding of air quality models and their application, development of emissions inventories, use of economic cost-benefit analysis and formulation of policy measures.
