Lisa Moretti
Junior Consultant, Austin, Texas
I was first introduced to ERM as an engineering intern working with the Contaminated Site Management team in Boston. While attending graduate school at the University of Texas, I expanded my environmental focus to include compliance subjects. The ability to apply my engineering skills to both contaminated site management and compliance assurance projects attracted me back to the company, this time in Austin.
Variety of projects, people, styles and learning opportunities
While I considered continuing my studies, my initial experience of working for ERM as an intern won me over. The opportunity to do your work anywhere in the world makes ERM a very attractive company to work for. Not only do you get the opportunity to expand your skills, you are exposed to other cultures and really get involved in a variety of projects.
The people here are great – the diversity of individuals and teams across offices gives me the chance to look at situations in a number of different ways. My knowledge is continually being tested on interesting projects ranging from determining how a sediment cap would work as a barrier to prevent sediments from contaminating water supplies, to assessing environmental impacts on sites that a company is considering to lease from another organisation. I’m learning new things every day, and I feel like a valued member of the team even though I’ve only been in Austin for a year.
Personalized career path guidance
Career wise, my peers are really helping me figure out which direction I want to go in. In the short-term, my goal is to get better at what I do. In the long-term, I want to work on overseas projects and if possible transfer to an international office (South America or anywhere in Europe would be great!). As my career advances, I expect that either compliance or contamination work will end up having a stronger pull on me. For now I am happy with the variety – it gives me a diversified working life.
I’m very proud of what I have achieved so far and appreciate the variety of experiences I am gaining. I’m only just starting out in my career, but I am lucky to be able to reach out and take advantage of the wealth of expertise and experience that exist within ERM.
