The Green Home Campaign

Shanghai, China

The Green Home Campaign is a joint effort between the ERM Foundation and Liangcheng Community in Hongkou District, Shanghai Municipality. Volunteers have been trained to undertake green-home audits, with the aim of promoting energy saving activities in the households within the community. The Green Home Campaign was kicked off on August 1st 2008.  Some 20 students participated in the training and the local media will run a piece on the scheme as part of the community initiatives for Shanghai Expo 2010.

In the coming months the Shanghai office will work with the Community to develop further initiatives and an ongoing strategy for raising environmental awareness including proposing  that they become the ‘resident’ EHS advisor to the community and hold regular ‘surgeries’ where people can come to ask questions about how they can improve their carbon footprints. They will also work with local schools to promote awareness of environmental, health and safety issues.  Over time the Foundation in Shanghai hopes to show the community that improved environmental awareness can not only save them money through lower energy costs, but can also greatly improve their quality of life.
