Developing a “green school” program for disadvantaged children
South Africa
A team of ERM consultants from Germany and South Africa teamed up to provide technical and fundraising support for the Kingsway Centre of Concern in South Africa. This school provides education for some of the most disadvantaged children in Johannesburg.
Faced with having to move out of their school premises, the Centre planned to build a new, larger school building that would enable them to provide education for an additional 1250 children. Their plan was to construct the new building under Green Building Aspects, covering energy efficiency measures, waste recycling and water saving installations. Our team of consultants created a cost-benefit analysis of the energy saving measures and is also providing on-going fundraising support and on-the-ground environmental education for the children and teachers.
